And… so why not do TRT…to balance the testosterone reduction? Many on here… are doing just that… me included.

How to do the VAT conversion of 103cm^2 to lbs? AI said 0.2lbs but that cannot be right? Doctor said it is higher than optimal.

Here is my report, perhaps you can use these numbers to guide you in the conversion.

Yes, but nearly 3/4 of of U.S. adults aged 20 and over are overweight or obese: 42.5% are obese, and another 31.1% are overweight. So you don’t want to be anywhere near average.

I’m not disagreeing with you. However, realistically it makes it harder if not impossible for an average person to keep the weight low - you are an outlier after all- due to social pressures and customs. After all isn’t the largest room in the house a kitchen where you can hang out with friends? Not a gym that’s for sure. usually if it exists at all, it is relegated to the garage. So unless something drastically changes it is a status quo.

Ah - but we are all working to be outliers here - living much longer than average, so we’ve got to work hard to be far, far from average. In the USA, its definitely harder than in most countries - due to the ever-present availability of high-calorie food - but we can change our environment. I find if I keep virtually all low calorie foods at home (vegetables, and some fruits) - and avoid the processed foods that typically have higher calories, salt, etc. - you eat what is available quickly and easily.

Nobody ever said living longer than average was going to be easy

I do the same thing as you do. Consciously trying to avoid buying junk and high calorie food. I also do just in time buying - preferably veggie and fruit food and I don’t buy too much so that I don’t feel like I have to eat it otherwise it will go to waste. As I’ve mentioned previously I do CR and exercise every day for 1 hour. It does keep me lean and my body fat very low while I’m in my mid-sixties. So there are results. This lifestyle may be fine for us the outliers and I’m fine with it, I just don’t see very applicable as the things are nowadays to the rest of the society.

Also talking about biomarkers interestingly when you are an outlier, you realize quickly that even modern medicine is not set up to deal with you. As an example take eGFR test. These are averages of course and clearly simply correlated with muscle mass and body fat mass. so do I use the eGFR for 65 year old men or use eGFR of 20 year old men who actually still have lesser strength and worse body composition than I do. We are truly here on our own.

The game changer for me was empagliflozin. Every week I lose a little weight. This week, I lost 1/2 a lb to put me at a new 5 year low. It’s caused me to drink a lot more water as well! I hope to drop another 20 lbs.

@DeStrider your results with empagliflozin are an outlier. The published studies show only mild/modest weight loss. By itself (without a GLP agonist on board), it makes me hungrier so I compensate for the calories I pee out by eating more. I’m happy for you that it’s worked so well (I think @RapAdmin had similar weight loss with an SGLT2i(?)

The studies I read show about a 1/2 lb of weight loss from empagliflozin a month. That bumps up to 1 lb a month if you keep calories constant.

I eat a mostly plant based diet with nuts, and I can’t say that I’ve been eating a lot more calories since starting empagliflozin. I’m happy to be an outlier. I just hope I don’t plateau soon!

Yes, perhaps a little less. I lost something like 5 to 7 lbs total over the first month I think of using canagliflozin. I lost about 15lbs with metformin; which seems much more effective for me to lose a little weight.

I wish I could find a place close me in Cleveland to get Dexa. I have been found rapa at 6mg/wk off and on for six months

Thank you for initiating this discussion. I’m a 69 yo female - My body fat percentage at 31.6 pounds is at the 44th percentile when compared to a “young normal,” but the 10th percentile when compared to age norms. I thought that wasn’t too bad until I realized the average person is very overweight. Visceral fat was less than half a pound so assume that’s good? Just about to start 3x/week of strength training. How do I figure out a good goal for %fat?

FWIW …

The maple syrup trial showed that android fat mass, the fat in the abdominal region, significantly decreased in the maple syrup group as compared to an increase in the group consuming the sucrose solution

The study was jointly funded by Québec Maple Syrup Producers and the Québec Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) through its healthy food production initiative, the Programme Alimentation santé.

We have large areas of wild silver maple down by the river and I used to tap them and boil it down. Smells great and the kids love the whole thing but of course it’s a major pain. It was said some huge percent of the indian’s calories came from maple syrup. I could never figure out how they could boil it down with what they had. Supposedly they got rocks hot on the fire and dropped them into logs full of sap. I don’t believe it. You can let it freeze and remove the ice for a while. It works well because the sap only flows when the temps are below freezing at night and above freezing during the day. So you can let it freeze every night. That does not solve the problem for the indians.

This article helps me see how eating sugar as a major part of their diet didn’t just kill them all.

The article said that they had people replace plain sugar with maple syrup, which leads me to wonder how much of the effect came from not eating sugar & how much from adding maple syrup.

Well, the main sugar in maple syrup is sucrose, so maple syrup is basically sucrose + polyphenols…

Happy Thanksgiving everyone  Losing the belly fat, keeping the muscle. Perhaps take more time than this guy… no need to do it in one week.

1200 calories a day is pretty extreme.

I think I’ll stick with my gradual 0.5 lbs of weight loss a week.
