I’m wondering whether there is a maximum absorption limit for astaxanthin. If there is, even low doses would yield similar benefits that are seen in the ITP.

That would seem to depend on whether the dye action of asta is independent of the biological activity. I suspect it is. Asta seems like a very good dye, coloring every thing it touches.

Wow. I take krill oil and it says 150 mcg. Pitiful. I don’t know what to think of this one. Seems expensive. Safe, but expensive.

We used to drink a ton of carrot juice with my wife and definitely noticed the dark orange hue. It’s actually nice. Now I am going back to carrot juice and Astaxanthin 6mg. Probably the healthiest of tans.

I’ve been taking 4mg for years, no impact on the skin that I could see. More recently, I’ve started on 12mg, so maybe there will be an effect😳. He had it after 5 months. It’s possible that it depends on other carotenoids you’re taking in at quantity - betacarotene orange, zeaxanthin yellow etc. which may somewhat mask that - I take quite high amounts of both lutein and zeaxanthin, and also I consume citrus peel daily. And depends on your original skin tone, probably more visible in low melanin skin. I also read - including on this site - that folks who took very high doses of asta, like 36mg, had pink-red stools… indicating that not all of it got absorbed.

I take 24 mg of Asta daily and I think I look a little redder in the face. But I’m in Hong Kong and I look more like the locals now instead of being as white as a ghost!

I’ve been taking 12mg of astaxanthin for a few months and also eat quite a few carrots (it’s either that or cookies!), and don’t notice anything. I’m a fairly pink person, so I imagine it would not be easy to see for a while (I call myself an ooompa loompa)

I remember my mom used to make a mustard glazed salmon dish every once in a while, and I could literally eat 2 pounds of it if we had had that much. Good salmon is delicious. She left it a little under well done, so it was still real juicy.

Funny. When I ate 3-5 whole carrots a day, my palms turned orange after a few months. It was a bother explaining it to attentive people.
I’ve backed off that number now that I’ve removed my hummus addiction fix from my diet. (Only 1 carrot most days now; no more orange hands).

I can confim that from my person experience. My skin tone changed from vampire white to yellow/red-ish.

In the latest Optispan podcast, Brian Kennedy endorses the use of Astaxanthin. He claims many of the doctors he talks to that prescribe it see notable benefits in patients. Big yes from Drs. Kaeberlein and Kennedy.

@LukeMV My takeaway from the point you make is to be very uncertain and very careful about interventions to extend my life. If the best and brightest who have spent 30 years focused on this topic are not sure what to do…then no one knows.
What rational person could dare hold any level of certainty or even high confidence in anything extreme? Treat deficiencies and illnesses, yes. For optimization, improve lifestyle.
If age or disease or damage has burned some bridge that lifestyle cannot repair, then take some chances but be very cautious: Add 1 thing at a time and track results to ensure no serious side effects.
