He’s a self experimenter like Bryan Johnson, so he’s essentially a lab rat. Seems like a good guy but falls for a lot of hype.
Fun fact: I first heard of him many years ago because he was on twitter saying he was injecting stem cells into his penis.
At least he is honest about his negative lab test results. I think most people in his position would be embarrassed to post that.

Well, if you liked that guy, you’ll love this guy:
He too holds very strong opinions, and is willing to put his version of heathy food where his mouth is.

I definitely don’t have time to watch a 30 minute video, but I skimmed it, and unfortunately I see many of the same conspiracies and psueodscientific “appeals to nature” ("well, cholesterol is natural and part of our body, evolution blah blah) fallacies that are common in some circles. Then the dude has a stroke, and still denies that it was a factor. I suppose when that happens, you either uncomfortably admit that you were wrong, or you double down on your belief system.
I actually feel really sorry for him, because although he’s peddling bullshit, he’s primarily a victim. He’s a victim of disinformation, and (armchair psychologist time) something was clearly lacking in his life that he needed to fill the hole with this ideology. And it’s an ideology which is going to send him to an early grave, which is sad.

I fully agree with you, Beth. I am also a WFPB vegan, as well as GF due to celiac, with a very high LP(a) and APO-B due to genetics. I have an appointment with a cardiologist in about 9 months, hoping to be prescribed PCSK-9 inhibitor. Although I am not overweight, I also want to be on a GLP-1 receptor agonist, as I have bad osteoporosis due to having undiagnosed celiac disease for 50 years. And a low dose Semiglutide stimulates osteoblastic activity and blunts osteoclastic activity. And it is an anti-inflammatory, lowering cardiovascular risk amongst other benefits.

If this happened in a movie, you’d be saying it’s unrealistic and too ironic writing. You can’t make this stuff up. He almost died having his stroke while frying a hamburger patty, fell, couldn’t unlock his phone for the longest time, hamburger started smoking, fire alarms going off, danger of fire starting and deadly smoke inhalation. Almost killed long term by meat, stroke, and almost killed immediately by meat, fire and smoke.
He finally managed to call 911, though useful lesson on dangers of fingerprint unlocking of phone! I’m glad he is ok, but this is a saga that’s almost unbelievable.
The bigger irony is how much he hates and distrusts hospitals and “ignorant” doctors who warn him about his sky high cholesterol, and what a criminal enterprise it is and how he barely got out of their clutches. And yet, when he gets a stroke, whom does he call? 911 or his butcher on speeddial? And to think that as he lay there with the stroke, his medicine - the hamburger - was within arm’s reach, sadly going up in smoke.
His other videos excoriating the medical care in the hospital are worth looking at for the amazing strangeness of it all.

Deep down they know that they are wrong but will never consciously admit it.

why is this kind of stuff even on this board?
Sometimes it’s good to know what not to do through example.

Why don’t you look at how this thread started? There’s your explanation. It started with an influencer who advocated and consumed large amounts of fatty meat, his cholesterol numbers climbed, and he lowered them through PCSK9i, although apparently and somewhat oddly was sad about that. Meanwhile there are older influencers who advocate such diets and do not worry about cholesterol. I gave an example of such, and a certain outcome. It’s all connected. If Ben Greenfield is discussed, it’s only fair that this guy Mitch is also discussed as they both belong to the same health domain.

I know, I read most of it. My point (which seems to be missed) is that this is a rapamycin board. I didn’t see ANYTHING about rapamycin in the OP. If we allow the board to get cluttered with extraneous stuff it becomes almost useless having to wade through it all.

Well I did ask what the point was of posting about Ben Greenfield. I didn’t understand it. It was explained to me that it’s important to keep up with what the challenges of particular misinformation were. OK, if that is the consensus, then being the cooperative sort, I joined in that effort. And while this is a site with rapa in its name and centered around it, it has long since been broadened to longevity in general, and even health in general. There are tons of threads with nary a mention of rapamycin. I have taken note of this, and having been told of the broader mandate, I have adjusted. I only aim to please, inform and add value according to the parameters oulined to me. And here we are.

I agree and could (probably should) collaborate with someone to write a book on this topic. Many of the named diets have religious under and overtones. I’m speaking as someone in recovery from a few of those (including carnivore) which started innocently enough but insidiously turned into something else all in a quest for health. I do not think I’m alone in my experience either.
Perhaps ironically it was my own doctor who first recommended a named diet (paleo) to me in 2011 and from then I just kept searching for a panacea diet and then progressed until eventually i was only eating meat. I credit rapa for helping my gut to the point I could begin to slowly add back in more and more foods and start working on my mindset.
I have a pretty stellar diet these days yet I’m a bit concerned that the way I ate for 12 years could have caused some lasting damage. I’m not as privileged as Ben Greenfield to be able to afford all the tests and interventions he’s implemented unfortunately. Be that as it may I’m grateful for what I’ve learned and only blame myself because at the end of the day I’m an adult and made several wrong choices. I’m glad Ben is at least admitting the way he previously ate was harming him. Too many people will not admit they were wrong.
This is the main reason I never ever judge how someone else chooses to eat.

I did run across a keto/carnivore influencer in 2020 who was advocating eating 200 grams of fat for breakfast.
Thankfully I only tried it once and failed hahaha. I’m happy to admit I was a quitter!

Interesting you mentioned religion because, if I recall correctly, Ben happens to be a very religious guy.
I’m just glad you are healthier now!!! We’ve all made mistakes for different reasons… says the woman who has consumed a minimum of 5 truckloads of Snackwell’s Devils Food cookies!

I recall Snackwell’s being quite popular in the mid 90’s. I guess the good thing is we are both still alive and have corrected our ways.

“I dialed back saturated fat.” What he also did was dial back calories.
I would rather not start another free-for-all, but I am in the calories count camp.
IMO, lipid panel results are mainly (notice: I said mainly) influenced by your BMI.
Then, if you want to optimize it, take things like atorvastatin and Brillo.
If you are even one pound overweight, you need to “dial back” the calories or burn more.
My current BMI is ~21.2.
I take one Brillo EZ 180mg/10mg and one atorvastatin 40 mg with supper.
My menu mainly consists of steak, chicken, and dairy products. I use butter and whole milk.
I eat at least one vegetable a day and a green salad.
It’s not the fat that’s killing people; it’s the calories.
My current lipid panel 4/25/2025 (sorry, this is the second time I have posted this)

I’m not sure if this post made me laugh because of my sense of humor, or if it’s just objectively funny, but I wanted to mention that your posts lately have been excellent and have added a lot of value from my perspective.

Thank you for your kind words, BTO. I admit that sometimes my tongue is firmly in my cheek, but I always try to add value regardless. It’s nice to hear that sometimes I succeed.

Fair enough. But if i wanted to read about those kinds of subjects I would go to boards centered around those subjects. This board over time has become to me; more “cluttered” with non-rap subjects and for me; it becomes tiring wading through it all sometimes…

Awesome blood results there! But I do think that this 3 drug combination is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. You’re absolutely right that overall calorie balance is super important, but I also think there is a big variation between people in terms of how they handle dietary fat intake. Taking myself as an example, my diet has essentially no effect on my blood markers, but my wife seems super sensitive.
