I have taken supplements for decades including the ones you have mentioned in the hope of extending healthspan. Since I am not an athlete maybe I missed feeling the benefits.
As I have gotten old, I now do sometimes really notice the effects of supplements that I am taking. The first supplement that really changed how I felt was Boswellia Serrata extract. It is an anti-inflammatory that has a special affinity for joints, especially the knee joint. I had problems with my knees for years as a result of jogging and playing tennis. After only a few days of taking Boswellia Serrata, my knee pains went away. Then after a few weeks of rapamycin, I became virtually pain-free over my entire body.
I do count my blessing of being pain-free at my age. Itā€™s something I think about and notice every day.

"simple: do nothing. "
I agree. Lower testosterone also has the benefit of moving the axis of thinking more toward the actual brain.

+1 for mentioning boswellia. Six months of rapa did nothing for my hand osteoarthritis. Since starting bos six weeks ago, still have some pain (take just one a day), but the inclination to yelp when I hit my right thumb and forefinger the wrong way has stopped. Justified the cost of a rapa.news subscription right there!

Will try boswellia for pain that I just developed at the base of my thumb.

@desertshores Creatine and beta alanine provide for faster short term recovery for the next set or next effort for strength athletes. I found amazing improvements in my rock climbing (hand recovery) and track bike racing (multiple short burst of max effort). I never noticed any benefit from citrulline but that might have been due to my age and diet. Creatine also offers (reportedly) some protection from concussions. Iā€™ve had too many starting from football as a kid.

I have noted recently an argument (glucose processing) for pushing eating to earlier in the day.

Regarding knee pain, Boswellia didnā€™t work for me. Over the last 6 mos, I have also tried and had some minor benefit from rapa, IR light, physical therapy, and even eliminating dairy (although my CRP is 0.15). The one thing that just solved it is voltaren (local NSAID). It took Ā½ day to start helping. 3 days later (applying 3X a day) the pain is gone. I mention it to this group in case anyone else is looking for a needle in a haystack. Every other chronic (mostly weight training related) body pain was solved by IR light, including wrist, elbow, shoulder, big toe, hand.

Stacks that worked for me always:
Rapa: just feel better
Rhodiola: always a bit of energy boost when needed
Taurine: take away my coffee jitter and post crush
Magnesium bis-glycinate and L-threonate: something I take every day
Sauna and Swimming: always good

Boswellia is one supplement that I found a significant difference in effectiveness among brands. The brand I originally used was ā€œHerbal Secrets Boswellia Serrata Extract (65% Boswellic Acids) 600 mg 120 Capsules Supplement - Non-GMO - Gluten Freeā€, bought from Amazon. It is also dose-dependent. Originally, because of my knee pain, I was taking 2.4 grams a day in divided doses. Now, Iā€™m doing fine on 600mg in the evening.

Thanks for the tip. Iā€™ll try it.

If you havenā€™t tried it, thereā€™s a very simple exercise that really helps with knee pain: poliquin step ups.

Thanks. Iā€™ve dabbled in this but muscle weakness is not my problem. I have been weight training through the knee pain, plus Iā€™m a long time cyclist. I donā€™t know why I have knee pain (both knees). I never did before, and nothing happened to cause a change. It just started creeping up until one day I noticed it had been happening for many months. The local nsaid has stopped the pain (5 days now). Iā€™m hoping to find a better solution zero pain is good.

When you say nothing has changed, have you had your knee(s) xrayed? As you get older there is a greater likelihood of osteoarthritis. While NSAIDs can relieve the pain, they wonā€™t solve the problem. The only solutions i have seen are something called Regenokine therapy]which isolates a factor in the blood called interleukin receptor antagonist and then injects into a joint. It was developed in germany, where many pro athletes go for treatment. There is also an alternative blood factor called Alpha-2-macroglobulin, also known as A2M, which is now available and has been shown to stop arthritis from developing but not reverse it. But it enables athletes to keep playing.

Thanks for the ideas. No x-rays. My pain has been diagnosed as ā€œpatellofemoralā€ syndrome. I have been strengthening and loosening here and there for months. If I stop exercising, the pain goes away after 2 days. But thatā€™s not a solution. I wonā€™t stop at NSAIDs, so if I canā€™t get it solved, Iā€™ll have to escalate.

"Listen up, young ones, from what Iā€™ve been through,

Excessive wear and tear ainā€™t no joke, itā€™s true.

I danced through life without a second thought,

Now my joints are worn, a lesson hard-fought.

Those knees and hips that once knew no bounds,

Now they ache and groan with each little round.

So take it slow, donā€™t rush into the fray,

Give your joints a break to keep troubles at bay.

Moms, pass this on to your daughters and sons,

Before theyā€™re caught in lifeā€™s race that stuns.

Balance the fun with some self-care,

Avoid the wear and tear, show your body you care."

Your bodyā€™s repair mechanisms can no longer keep up with the maintenance required. Continuing with pain will cause serious damage. PRP actually fixed my shoulder, though the expense isnā€™t trivial. Couple thousand. It recruits helper cells and they call for more, repairs get done and pain is gone. I canā€™t believe it works, but it does. Inflammation is gone. Iā€™d do it before the damage is irreparable. Thatā€™s just me. Good luck,

Thanks. Iā€™ve heard that the main effect is anti-inflammatory. Im chasing that same effect in multiple ways. I may have to resort to more expensive alternatives eventually. Fingers crossed.

Welcome to the forum.

You probably know this, but for those that donā€™t, glycation and the glycanage test are two very different things that are not related at all.
