There is a rather wide range of calories per day that are sufficient, yet where I am still hungry and could eat a lot more without gaining weight, perhaps somewhat due to pre-diabetes. So for people like me, CR means trying to embrace the hunger and restrict calories, not below sustainability, but clearly quite far below what I would otherwise quite naturally eat (too much, yet without gaining weight).

This may sound technically wrong, however, it is indeed so that the hunger itself belongs to the mechanism of CR’s effects! Therefore, my approach of identifying CR with eating so that there is still quite some hunger is perhaps right on the mark.

Actually, since those who used CR to lose weight but reached the desired setpoint are usually also still hungry, CR being hunger (without necessarily changing weight) is also applicable there.
