This was so full of good information! I could not absorb all of it in one pass, but I’ll share a few things in the event it’s helpful. Please correct me if any of this is wrong.
The speaker said the general recommendation for adults is to take 2000iu per day.
If you are obese, you need 2-3 x that amount.
But, having said that, the speaker, who appears to be thin, takes 6000 per day.
Get calcium from your diet because harder to get 1000 per day of elemental calcium from supplements because the actual calcium in them is low relative to carbonate or citrate in some forms. At a minimum, take calcium supplements with food
Calcium with meal helps you absorb less of the oxalates in greens, so that is a good way to help avoid kidney stones
Fyi, there was recently a little talk about the active form of vit d by John Hemming in another thread. I’ll post a link for the source of Vitamore D that @RPS shared from that thread below.
His levels of D are 80
(He was going back and forth with UK and US measurements of D so it was hard for me to keep up)
Target d level is min 30
Ideally 40-60, but later he said up to 80 nanograms per ml
Up to 100 is safe
Or 100 to 150 or up 200 nanoamoles per liter
He aims for 200
Being deficient in D can cause calcification in blood vessels (ah ha, this can explain some of my issue, as I discovered my level was 10 at age 40!).

I thought I was stable in the 40s at 5k iu a day but my last test had me in the 60s! I think I want to be in the 50s though, but apparently its harder to target exact than I thought since it can change over months even on same dose.

We have discussed this on other threads, but there are issues about the rate at which cholecalciferol is converted to calcifediol. Hence it is worth finding a source of calcifediol if at all possible.

So you think rate of conversion changes based on weather or health or something? I thought it was mostly fixed by genetics.

And as a result of your comments, I am now taking 2000iu daily of calcifediol in addition to the 2000 of traditional D that is in my daily multi.
In the video, at minute 8:50 he commented how quickly the active works. He didn’t talk about this in depth.
At 10:20 he goes into vit d from the sun

I would do a blood test on this. You could find that the calcifediol converts far more efficiently into 25OHD (because that is what it is) and drives up your 25OHD levels more than you would want it to.

Thx for this. So, I take a daily supplement with 2000iu. And then 3 or 4 days per week, I had been taking a 5000iu in order to get my levels closer to 70-80. My last test months ago was aprox 69.
My thinking is to replace the 5000 with 2000 of daily calcifediol. For a total of 4000iu daily, but in two different forms.
Knowing these results, are you guessing maybe I should only use the calcifediol a few days per week vs daily? I realize it’s all just a best guess.
And then how long should my trial be before I recheck labs? Meaning, how long does it take for calcifediol to show up in bloodwork? Once I have those results, I can then readjust.

It should arrive within hours. I am starting calcifediol tablets on tuesday and doing a blood test on monday and Monday week. That should teĺl me roughly what they do. I have been taking a lot of dedrogyl over the past few days to make sure i dont go low.
I am concerned about tablets for an oil soluble vitamin.
On the other hand, however, i now have some really high concentration mk7 oil to try. (0.45%)

I’m afraid I might be going a little high. 5000 IUs daily took me to 30. I took another 5000 IUs for a total of 10,000 IUs daily, but haven’t measured again. I’ll probably stick with 5000 IUs daily and an additional 5000 IUs EOD (Mon-Wed-Fri). I don’t want to go too high.
My mom is at 70 on 5000 IUs daily.
