I’ve used the Libre 2 CGM, but saw that the Libre 3 is now FDA approved. I was wondering if anyone has tried it?

It is smaller, claims to be more accurate, and no longer requires the manually scanning every 8 hours.

I get my Libre2 CGMs from Amazon Pharmacy, but I don’t see the 3 listed on Amazon yet.

Started using Libre 3 today and was surprised that my glucose fell to 59 one hour after a small dinner (half cup of rice with broccoli, carrots, tomato and onion) and a 10 min brisk walk. I rechecked it with finger poking - it was 74. It’s a big difference. Does anybody have similar discrepancies?

The picture shows how BG changes during night sleep. The range is from 53 to 100. Woke up at 6 with a reading at 97. Had a cup of black coffee (no sugar, milk), it spiked immediately to 118. It’s a big surprise bc I was told that fasting BG measurements are not affected by coffee. Coffee does affect it and much!

I just finished wearing the Libre 3 for two weeks. Noticing that the readings from the Libre 3 seemed high, I cross-checked it with a Contour Next Gen meter and found a significant discrepancy, with the Libre generally reading about 20 mg/dL higher. This is my second time using a Libre, and both times, the readings have been off. While I find the Libre helpful for tracking glucose excursions, its accuracy leaves much to be desired.

It’s my second day only, but the Libre 3 readings for me are lower than on OneTouch Reveal so far. Looks like accuracy is an issue.

I wear the Libre 3 daily. I have found that if I don’t really punch the sensor in very firmly, I get readings like you’re seeing. If you call them and are willing to invest 30 minutes in their process, they’ll send you a new sensor. Just be sure to record the exact time of discrepancy with finger stick and the exact lot number and expiration date of the finger stick strip you’re using.

Also, it’s very sensitive to pressure on your arm, like being in bed or on a couch.

Do you mean you need to push the sensor in a few times after you initially attached it?

For me, the Dexcom showed very different numbers than the Libre. I trust Dexcom more because it can be calibrated and after that it matched the measurements taken from the fingertips very well. Libre sometimes showed low values for me at night, but Dexcom didn’t. It is also worth noting that you should not sleep on your side over the sensor.

No, I just mean when you first apply it, push the plunger pretty hard into your arm so the filament goes as deep as possible.

Hmm. That’s kinda approaching dealbreaking territory. I sleep on my side - and FWIW, this supposedly is superior healthwise to sleeping on your back or stomach. Mostly however, I tend to switch from one side to the other unconciously, not sure how to control that…

You can install the sensor in such a way that there is no direct pressure on it when sleeping on your side. if I remember correctly, you can find instructions on YouTube.

Thanks, I’ll look. I’m definitely interested in getting a CGM, and at this point intend to get one at the start of October. Starting November I plan on commensing my multidrug regimen, bempedoic acid + ezetimibe and empagliflozil to begin with, and therefore want to get a good feel for how this will impact my glucose control.

I was waiting for OTC CGMs. Apparently Dexcom is already out, and it would be nice to read some user comparisons between the Dexcom OTC offering and whatever it is that Abbott comes out with (I imagine it’ll be the Libre 3 hardware maybe with some different software wrapping?).

In any case if the cost is reasonable, about $100 a month or so, I’d like to sport one for as long as 12-18 months as I ramp up rapamycin starting in 2025.

By wearing Libre 3, I found out that rapamycin doesn’t give me a spike nor does a statin. The highest spike is after my morning kefir smoothie loaded with berries.

Found the way to decrease glucose morning spike quickly after having a smoothie loaded with berries (blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, peach and mango).

My BG goes to 164 per Libre 3 within 10 min after I have my smoothie. However, if I stand on a vibrating platform with the highest level setting, it falls to 129 within 10 min and continues going down.

I learned from the group here you can get a coupon on abbott’s website for one month free. It was also suggested I call them, and voila, they gave me a card to get a deep discount for 12 months… I’m paying less than $40! (With an rx)

Is that for one 14 day unit or two?

Good question. It was free for 14 days, which was one box. But the ongoing coupon is for two boxes, the entire month.

Here is the link for the free trial
