Think the others answered this quite well above
There is also a thread on iron here on the forum you can search and you may want to look up the recent tweet from Sinclair points to papers on iron being anti-longevity

Except if your iron and hemoglobin levels drop too low, you will have no energy.
“The product has been promoted from almost the beginning of the mass media era as a cure for “iron-poor tired blood”
Tired blood remedies were a thing back in the 50 -70’s
" In 1965, the FTC ordered the makers of Geritol to disclose that Geritol would relieve symptoms of tiredness only in persons who suffer from iron deficiency anemia, and that the vast majority of people who experience such symptoms do not have such a deficiency.”

Yes, it’s a U shaped curve. However you should try to trend lower.
I’ve just ordered citrulline for my stack. It’s the best way to add Arginine to your stack plus it has some detoxifying elements as well as lowers BP. The rat study also looked like it had the potential for life extension as well as better metabolic health. Combined with a high safety profile and low price (about 25 cents for 6 g), I’ve decided to place an order.

I have used Citrulline for quite some time. it comes with benefits for muscular and vascular health. When it comes to muscular development, there are some effects tthat are mTOR independent . 2 gr/day is enough to get benefits. More is not always better. I sometimes use small amounts like 0,5-0,6 gr twice a day.
“Twenty-five patients received L-citrulline supplements (2000 mg/day) for 1 month. Arginase activity decreased by 21% in T2DM patients after taking L-citrulline supplements. Additionally, plasma NO levels increased by 38%. There was a modest improvement on H1Ac levels in these patients, though not statistically significant. The effect of L-citrulline on arginase activity was also studied in bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAECs) grown in high glucose (HG) conditions. HG (25 mM, 72 h) caused a 2-fold increase in arginase activity in BAECs and decreased NO production by 30%. L-citrulline (2.5 mM) completely prevented the increase in arginase activity and restored NO production levels. These data indicate that L-citrulline can have therapeutic benefits in diabetic patients through increasing NO levels and thus maintaining vascular function possibly through an arginase inhibition related pathway”

I think inhibiting arginase is an antiaging strategy.
The involvement of excessive activity of the arginase/ornithine pathway in cardiovascular and renal dysfunction and injury has been well documented by research in experimental models and human disease conditions. The involvement of these pathways in CNS disease and cancer has also been clearly demonstrated. Targeting specific elements in the arginase/ornithine pathways offers immense potential for the treatment of cardiovascular, renal, and CNS diseases as well as cancer. Studies in patients with cardiovascular disease have shown beneficial effects of local delivery of arginase inhibitors. As has been explained in the previous sections, the two arginase isoforms are 100% homologous in the areas critical for their activity. In addition, both isoforms are clearly involved in dysregulation of NOS function. However, A1 and A2 are encoded by different genes and localized to different intracellular compartments. Both isoforms are widely expressed in many cell types, and both are involved in multiple cellular functions. Analyses using mutant mice and specific gene knockdown have clearly demonstrated the differential involvement of the two isoforms in disease conditions. However, extensive evidence substantiates a positive role for A1 activity in maintaining normal cell growth, collagen synthesis, and neuronal development as well as tissue repair from injury. Therefore, the global inhibition of arginase activity for extended periods could be detrimental.

I love Brazil Nuts. The only problem i have is limiting myself to 1 or 2 a day.

same with me. If I buy them most likely will end up eating 10-15 of them. Same with organic walnuts which I think are amazing for health but end up eating the whole 1lb in one day or two lol

Yes, the variation in Selenium content of Brazil nuts is enormous depending on where they’re grown. Most (70%) exported B nuts actually come from Bolivia, which is quite low. You’d need about 35g (8/9 nuts?) of Bolivian Brazil nuts to reach rda for Selenium
“The median Se concentration in Brazil nuts varied from 2.07 mg kg-1 (in Mato Grosso state) to 68.15 mg kg-1 (in Amazonas state). Therefore, depending on its origin, a single Brazil nut could provide from 11% (in the Mato Grosso state) up to 288% (in the Amazonas state) of the daily Se requirement for an adult man (70 μg).”

Just having returned from an area, bordering Amazonas state where I got a big packet of Brazil nuts, I realize I should limit myself to a maximum of one nut per day, or even one every second day.
Thanks for posting!

I’d do at least 2-3 per day. One every other day is same as not having them at all.

Citrulline reduces all-cause mortality in critically ill human patients. The more I investigate, the more I like it.
Citrulline group had a notable reduction in FBS (p = 0.04), total cholesterol (TC) (p = 0.02), low density lipoprotein (LDL-C) (p <0.001) and high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) (p <0.001). Also, a significant increase in lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) concentration (p <0.001) was observed in the intervention group at the end of the trial.
Moreover, these amino acids are reversely correlated with levels of cytokines and inflammatory markers (11). A growing body of evidence shows that cytokines can contribute to the emergence of critical illness (12). Cytokines are strongly related to higher disease severity in these states, while the persistence in the spread of the cytokinesis is associated with improvement in multiple organ failure (MOF) (13). Orally ingested L-citrulline can result in the biosynthesis of L-arginine and, L-citrulline (14) ,and also enhance arginine bioavailability in the circulation, which acts as a precursor for nitric oxide (NO) formation (15). NO level could regulate vasodilation, blood flow, and muscle oxygenation (16, 17).

I read that the combination citrulline and arginine very well might have a synergistic effect when it comes to boosting nitric oxide levels compared to taking the supplement separately.
I have seen this in an 88-year-old member of my family. The above-mentioned combination was very vitalizing and increased muscle strength as well as energy in a rather sarcopenia affected person.

18 of 20 amino acids increased longevity in C. Elegans at small doses. This effect was reversed for large doses for some amino acids.
Please remember that these are earthworms and may not react the same way as mammals. For instance, dosing a mammal with methionine is probably not a good idea as methionine restriction is a proven longevity technique.
What this does tell us is that we probably want to avoid dosing phenylalanine or aspartate.

@DeStrider This is great information. Thanks.

This meta analysis paper shows the effects of supplementing some amino acids on mice. Here you will notice that lowered methionine and tryptophan increase lifespan while increased glycine increases lifespan. BCAAs are a toss up.

I like the way you are having a go at the amino acids, good work. Keep it coming.
