My youtube algo is spying on me and saw my interest in nootropics so it came up with a breathless ad about how only 7 seconds of sound would help my aging brain.

It turns out The Brain Song is 17 minutes long and is claimed to boost BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) “The Memory Protein” for $39.

I wondered what the forum thinks about this.

Hard to reliably measure results perhaps?

Reading the list of “Scientific References” they cite. It looks like BS. I could not find a single one that tied listening to music and BDNF. The closest one appears to be about the effect of 40 Hz binaural beats. Some of the citations appear to have no relevance, such as “Can Neurotoxins Cause Hair Loss?” Oddly, many of the references tell how to increase BDNF without music. Such as exercise, yoga, and meditation.
Very sketchy company; I wouldn’t give them 39¢ let alone $39.

Acute increases in brain-derived neurotrophic factor in plasma following physical exercise relates to subsequent learning in older adults

Thanks @desertshores. I shall put the $39 to better use, like beer or cake!

Wooow! @desertshores You’re right: what a load of charlatans!

I didn’t have time to look at the “references” when I posted but I have gone through them now a bit. One of them is a consumer report about arsenic in fruit juice.

None of the links is clickable or copy/paste, and super weird: they’ve blanked out all the references to diseases, eg. A********ers Disease.
