It’s not so easy to get beta-cyclodextrine. Alpha-cyclidextrine is comparatively inexpensive and available on eBay.

Potential benefits of alpha-cyclodextrine:

  1. Effect on Serum Lipids: A randomized, double-blind clinical trial investigated the impact of oral α-CD on blood lipid and lipoprotein levels in healthy subjects. The study found that α-CD was well tolerated and led to a modest reduction in small LDL particles and improvements in glucose-related parameters¹.

  2. Dietary Fiber Functions: Research has shown that α-CD functions as a dietary fiber, promoting health by inhibiting the absorption of carbohydrates, fats, and cholesterol. It also has prebiotic effects, influencing gut microbiota and generating short-chain fatty acids, which can help with metabolic diseases².

  3. Blood Glucose and Insulin Levels: A meta-analysis reviewed clinical trials on the effect of α-CD on blood glucose and insulin levels. The findings indicated that α-CD could help manage blood glucose levels post-meal³.

These studies suggest that α-CD has potential benefits for lipid management, metabolic health, and blood glucose control.

In the mouse study, beta-cyclo dextrine HPbCD resulted in oxotoxocity; alpha-cyclo dextrine HPaCD did not at all

Ototoxic effects of different CDs as measured by ABRs

. Although vehicle‐treated mice had thresholds near 40 dB SPL consistent with normal hearing, mice treated with HPβCD had thresholds ≥100 dB SPL, indicative of extreme hearing loss (Fig. ​(Fig.5A,5A, B). Nearly half the mice treated with HPγCD had a threshold at 88 dB SPL, while all other groups (SBEγCD, SBEβCD, HPαCD) had normal thresholds. Importantly, these trends persisted across the three time points spanning 20 weeks of treatment (Fig. S2).
