Nice.

I have been taking zinc as a supplement… for a while. Became even more consistent for a daily supplement… since covid in 2019, my physician informed me zinc is supposed to help with all cold viruses… hence… viral covid too.

What dose do you take, and any idea how much is too much?

Zinc competes with copper for absorption.

Yes. Do the combo… because higher zinc can affect copper absorption.

Jarrow Formulas (good brand), has Zinc Balance ~$11-$12 100 veggie capsules on Amazon, 15mg Zinc L-methionine Sulphate and 1mg Copper Gluconate.

That’s what I take, but only 1 cap 3 times a week, so 45mg zinc and 3mg copper a week. Excess copper is like excess iron, best not taken as a supplement at all, very destructive in excess. And unnecessary for veggie heavy diet folks, as copper is very widespread (far more than iron).

What dose and brand… I use zinc orotate.
Zinc orotate is a mineral supplement that combines zinc with orotic acid, an organic substance found in cells. The orotic acid in zinc orotate helps the body absorb and use zinc more effectively.

Zinc is involved in many aspects of cellular metabolism. It is required for the catalytic activity of hundreds of enzymes, and it plays a role in enhancing immune function, protein and DNA synthesis, wound healing, and cell signaling and division. (Zinc - Health Professional Fact Sheet)].

Those who eat meat protein probably get a good amount of zinc in chicken, red meat, fish and seafood. Oysters highest amount of zinc. Yuck!

Too much of a good thing, probably 40 mg a day is hitting the high level of zinc and probably not needed( maybe every few days) better to go with 15 mg zinc with copper… still every other day or so.

If zinc and copper compete for absorption, would alternating days of supplementing each be better? I eat fish and take a multivitamin 1x/week that has tiny amounts of copper and zinc. I doubt I’m short of either.
