What is your ApoB? I’m pretty sure I will get a negative score. It’s just a question of how negative. But it’s still information I would like to have.

Sure!

Here is from my last blood panel in mid-April.

All the stuff that worries people.
Cholesterol, Triglycerides and ApoB.

So - no plans to work on lowering ApoB or LDLC?

I need to go get bloodwork done when I get back from vacation.

 TBH… no. Not seeing a reason to change at 65 years. These numbers are fairly consistent for a few decades.

Based on my physical health… drawn from a variety of biological tests, DEXA, Coronary Calcium Scan, Methylation, Glycan and 3-4 month blood checks… my physician and I are not seeing anything building or changing. This is my phenotype… a little higher LDL - C and ApoB.

I am sure it drives a few on here crazy… if it were their numbers it would be a health crisis.

Dad Scottish - natural red hair tint… blue eyes…Neanderthal genes here too… robust immunity - lol. Mom Czechoslovakia.

Looking at the genetic background of my family over a few hundred years… we are damn long lived… life and health span. I have something they never had for an additional boost… rapamycin. I can feel and sense my health… and tests confirm it.

I can tunnel down and spend more $$ on elaborate tests… but I am not seeing the point of it.

Provided I avoid all stupid accidents…I will be here for the long haul.

From the 3 low carb confs we went to (if i remember) there no gold standard 10yr studies (I’m exagerating) on what we heard from the stage: Forget Apo-B (and LDL) if Calcium score is zero. That message was ment to be an over arching view not so much taken literally if one wants to work on diet etc to improve numbers.

The low carb conf speakers spoke widely of improving heart/arterial function moving patients from high/medium carb to low carb (higher protein) diets and this is our personal experience. Both of us have zero calcium scores. We use a lab that has an EBCT (electron beam CT machine, much lower radiation then xray CT std machines).

My wife’s LDL-c is around 200, Apo-B was 150 and calcium score zero.

Big tip; Its becoming new-news in the Thyroid community that going from hypo thyroid to normalized, if on NDT, upping your dose (but staying out of RT3 elevated (hyper tyroid) dramatically dropped my wifes LDL (all sizes) and Apo-B dropped into normal range. JUST by increasing NDT (natural desicated thyroid). If you test; get a thyroid panel that includes T3, free T3 and RT3 and of course TSH, T4, free T4.

In the everything is connected to everything land; sex hormones, lipids, etc, its been interesting and frustrating that Aug-2023 almost seems like the age of discovery of fire… We labor on re our DIY self experimentation largely ahead of the lagging medical system.

Good luck to all, curt

Will be checking ApoB, etc., next week. Also will have my calcium score soon. Will post the results. It was not very easy to convince my cardiologist to order that. Wondering why such resistance? He’s somehow sure that my heart is just fine.

Exactly, odd to me that at mid-sixties it isn’t a standard check like a Cologuard/colonoscopy at 50 years.

MAC alerted me to this test on this site… fast, painless… not cheap… and not covered by my insurance… as I had no heart condition.

When I brought it up to my physician… he said, Oh? Yeah okay. He being a bit hefty at the time… age 45 years had his done too at the same time.

The nurse mentioned it when she scheduled me… she had just scheduled him. So she knew what dates were available at the hospital. HIPAA??? Hahaha.

Oh my goodness, we are very similar. Same ApoB and similar LDL-C. Mine was 109. I do have better Trigs and HDL-C. But I am aggressively moving to lower that ApoB. My doctor is similar to yours, so I am having to pull him along. I have to pay $45 for my ApoB test. I keep hearing that the cash price is much lower, but I have never figured out how to get that.

$28 at Life Extension, and I’m sure lower if you search on our site for the other lab testing websites:

Thnx for posting this tidbit - I was wondering if there was a better machine for CAC score! Now I wonder how to locate one in my area…

What I have done/and still do;

Research what is the latest equipment and current software version.

Then contact the manufacturer of the equipment and find out who in your area has the latest equipment with the most current software.

That is how I located a fast CAT{now call CA score] as it was called over 10 years ago{it was not well known and convenient MD did not care for them, as an angiogram was/is much more profitable for them and more risk to the patient] This was for my other half, as her doctor insisted on the angiogram. At that time there where only two places that had the equipment I want to be used.

A private radiology center had the unit at one of their locations, paid $500.00 cash out of pocket this was 10 years ago. The other facility was a hospital, I recall was quoted over $3,500 for the same scan.

Yes, I had to get a prescription,

I recall the scan showed less than 9% plaque and her doctor was “furious” that this was done{as I got a prescription from another doctor as he would not/refused to provided one for the fast CAT/CA score, only for an angiogram. And even to this day no angiogram.

All medical procedures are negotiable.

You will be very surprised when you “shop” for a procedure.

It’s not that easy to locate EBT scan in a local area. I spent hours doing that to no success.

Most of my family is long lived. Generally dying in their 90s but none above 100. The men in my father’s line are more problematic. My grandfather died at 80, but that’s not bad I suppose for someone born in 1839 who lived in a remote area with no medical care. My father died at 84.

That was my grandfather speaking. He died of a heart attack at age 63. His son, my father, lived to age 88. That is why I am trying to aggressively treat my ApoB even if my CAC score tests 0. Of course if it is off the charts high, I will pull even more levers!

It is a rebound effect. Rebound effect - Wikipedia

Thank you! What is i the name of equipment that is accurate but lower in radiation for successful CAC score? Bcs then I could look for the phone numbers of manufacturers to locate one in my area.

It’s EBT (EBCT) scanner.

GE-Imatron™ Electron Beam CT (EBT) scanner was the breakthrough that enabled the detection and quantization of even miniscule amounts of coronary calcium.
