What actions do you take, if any, with early symptoms of cold or flu. I find myself becoming increasingly paranoid with age when preparing to travel. Being run over with illness can sure ruin ones vacation. What I have followed for many years is essentially, Bill Faloon’s protocol featured in Life Extension Magazine:
800mg Cimetidine
9,000mg high allicin garlic
200mg DHEA
1,200mg lactoferrin
37mg zinc acetate lozenges
10-50mg melatonin
3600mg aged garlic
Tamiflu
This has worked for me 4/6 times I’ve used it in the last 10 years or so. Conclusion based on lack of progression of symptoms within 24 hour period. Other supplements used have been Moducare and Whole Immune along with above. Subjectivity and coincidence acknowledged here. What is your personal “silver bullet”?

Fortunately, because of my annual flu shots, etc., I never get anything (knock on wood).
But when I feel I may have been exposed to a virus, I take the following.
Methylene blue: anti-viral
Zinc: immune system support
Maybe I am lucky. I remember what colds and the flu feel like, but it has been so many decades since I last had a cold or the flu that I don’t recall when that was.

LL 37 - 7 day cycle every 2 months and/or when “exposed” as we were 2 weeks ago when our son had a cold and we didn’t get it.
LL-37 is a 37-residue antimicrobial peptide found in humans, produced by neutrophils, epithelial cells, and lymphocytes. It plays a crucial role in the innate immune system, defending against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. LL-37 is also an immunomodulator, meaning it can influence the body’s immune response, and has been linked to the development of certain autoimmune diseases.
Here’s a more detailed look at LL-37:
- Structure and Function:
-
LL-37 is a cationic peptide, meaning it carries a positive charge, which allows it to bind to negatively charged bacterial membranes.
-
It is generated by the cleavage of a larger protein called CAP-18 by serine proteases, like proteinase 3.
-
Its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity makes it effective against various pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
- Antimicrobial Activity:
-
LL-37 can disrupt bacterial cell membranes, leading to cell lysis and death.
-
It can also interact with intracellular targets within bacteria.
-
LL-37 has been shown to effectively target antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
- Immunomodulatory Properties:
-
LL-37 can activate macrophages, promoting the release of cytokines that are involved in the immune response.
-
It can also help clear bacteria from the body and reduce inflammation.
-
LL-37 has been implicated in the development of some autoimmune diseases.
- Other Roles:
-
LL-37 may play a role in wound healing and angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels).
-
It can enhance the immune response to viral infections by interacting with double-stranded RNA.
-
LL-37 may contribute to the progression of some cancers.
- Potential Therapeutic Applications:

I’m vaccinated and don’t usually get flues. I also use Profi nasal spray before leaving home which I believe prevents contamination. But if I feel that I was exposed to a virus, I start with cleaning my nose by irrigation. I alternate a simple solution of salt and 1 drop iodine with water and colloidal silver - every 30 min. Then I take Bromelain, Zink, NAC, and Lactoferrine and skip a meal or two while drinking much fluids. Virus usually sits for a few hours in your nasal passages, so it’s important to either kill it there or at least reduce the load.

Haven’t heard of that one before. Bit of a double-edged sword though.
Flu vaccines in some cases are 20-40% effective. One of the worst viral illness I ever had was contracted a few weeks after getting that season’s vaccine du jour. That was quite awhile ago. I’m not against them however.

For me they work just fine!

Both my kids had heavy prolonged colds recently.
Twice I had a bit of a tickle in the throat so sucked on a zinc gummy. Nasal irrigation with something containing carragelose.
Still took my usual Rapamycin - no cold for me.

I agree with all the above, especially Lactoferrin. High dose vitamin C can also slow down a virus. When you’re sick you can take more orally without having trouble.
The other one that works is Beta-(1,3)(1,6)-glucans. This is from mushrooms and you can get a pill.

I’m taking Tremella by Real Mushrooms daily, but didn’t know it’s beneficial as anti-viral. Great tip!

Do you prefer LL-37 to Thymosin alpha 1? If so, why?
Two very different areas of activity.
TA-1 is a hormone produced by the Thymus, which output declines. TA-1 maturates T-Cells and strengthens the immune system that way BUT we produce T-Cells on a regular basis and if there is not enough TA-1 present you will still have naive T-Cells.
That is the benefit of the TRIIM protocol, rejuvenate the Thymus to produce more TA-1, which is only 1 of the 3 major hormones produced by the thymus.
LL 37 is quite different and is the only one known to be produced by humans, of the known cathelicidins. It is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. So it’s an active participant in shutting down a variety of pathogens.
