Just breathe through your nose. Not for athletic performance but for health. Exercise is good but why is “too much” exercise bad? Is it how we breathe?
I used to get frequent sinus infections, bronchitis, exercise onset asthma….but now I never do. What’s changed?
Nasal breathing.
Here’s my interview with George Dallam PhD. 65 yo competitive triathlete and sports physiology academic. 20 years as a 100% adapted nasal breather during exercise at all levels of effort.

I listened this morning whilst doing my usual zone 2 where I have always done nasal breathing, but for my last bit where I do HIIT, instead of reverting to gasping through the mouth, I just stayed with the nasal.
OMG it was way easier than before.
I’m converted - only nasal from now on!!
Thank you @Joseph_Lavelle

Awesome! Congrats! My current push is using intervals…going as hard as I can for short pushes (< 1 minute so far) of nasal breathing while going for max effort. I do multiple intervals, and I’ll work to extend them over the next few months.
Edit: I wanted to add that a surprising finding is how hard it is to nasal breathe while resistance training. When I do legs, and I force myself to nasal only breathe…I almost pass out after the set is over. Fortunately I use leg machines that allow me to lean on them so I don’t fall over. Crazy but it shows how far I can improve.

Unfortunately, my deviated septum limits some of my ability in this area.

Nasal breathing has helped me so much since I started doing it about 4 years ago

Fairly standard surgery and it won’t change your appearance. Fix it asap!

Thanks, I will have to check into it. My nose is straight and OK, but I had an x-ray done and it is causing some blockage.
