I read this post at the beginning of 2024. Decided I’d give chromium picolinate a try.
I bought:

I was trying out other things as well in the early part of the year.
In March, I posted about ‘concerning blood tests’ as my WBC was hitting lows below my normal observed range. Of the multiple things I had recently started, I thought the culprit might be either acarbose or chromium, based on timing. Though I could find no doc anywhere about either one afftecting WBC.
In any case, I stopped those two, plus a couple others, and things headed back to normal over the next couple months. The problem cleared, but I had not isolated the specific cause. So I started each of the things I stopped, at staggered times. It seemed that the problem didn’t repeat right away, and so I ended up restarting everything I had stopped, and wrote it off as my imagination working overtime.
I was traveling the month of May, and didn’t take every med with me, but (fortunately or unfortunately) I did include the chromium. I got home, and went through the usual suffering involved when I don’t do endurance exercise for a month. But by mid-June, I was getting worse performance, not better. I couldn’t finish my usual weekly hike.
Subsequent blood tests showed I had greatly reduced RBC/Hgb/Hct, as welll as WBC. And considerably reduced iron and ferritin. See June-August below:
So, back to tearing my hair out, trying to understand the source of my problem. After many queries, I did get chatgpt to puke this up:
So I stopped chromium picolinate, and only that. As you can see from August onward, numbers started heading in the right direction.
In addition to stopping chromium, I started taking iron, 64mg 2xday. Most say it takes months to get rid of iron deficiency anemia, but in this case, after about three weeks, I was not having symptoms when hiking. (I tried to back off the iron supplementation too quickly, which is why there’s a dip on 8/12.) Still supplementing iron (at a reduced level), but plan to stop soon.
WBC recovered as well, Can’t find anything related to cp suppressing WBC. But it most assuredly did.
