So I’ve been going through my stores of Turkey Tail mushroom, putting one in my tea every morning. I thought maybe that’s how I avoided the flu, as it passed around me and is now gone. This says it makes my arthritis and periodontitis worse?
Thanks for the heads up.
The basic idea is that exposure to infectious agents actually does affect innate immunity memory. So using things like beta glucan which ramp up immune responses actually throws innate immunity into overdrive, damaging the affected tissue in an autoimmune manner upon subsequent exposure.
But this is the critical mechanism which allows you to entrain innate immunity without stimulating autoimmune damage: the absence of the infectious agent. Once you have periodontal disease, your natural immunity retains the memory of those bacteria. You then clean out the bacteria completely, and regardless of any subsequent immunity training, you will not suffer autoimmune attacks, as long as you don’t allow the periodontal bacteria back in.
