This is enough to make me consider revisiting some of the recreational drugs of my youth. Only perhaps at the micro dose level now at my age. The only thing that I need to understand better is the research that is showing the 5ht receptor stimulation causes heart valve problems. This would be true for other psychedelics and ergot derived medications.

I wanna know its effects in histones

Impressive:

Longevity in Aged Mice (In Vivo):
• Aged female mice (19 months old) received monthly psilocybin (5 mg/kg → 15 mg/kg) for 10 months.
• Survival rate was 80% in psilocybin-treated mice vs 50% in controls.
• Treated mice showed improved physical appearance (fur quality and color).
• No major side effects observed; treatment was well-tolerated.

Proposed Mechanism:
• Psilocybin acts on 5-HT2A serotonin receptors, expressed in various tissues.
• Stimulates SIRT1, a critical regulator of aging and oxidative stress resistance.
• Supports the “psilocybin-telomere hypothesis”: improved mental state may preserve telomeres and slow aging.

“Their hypothesis for the mechanism (5-HT2a induced overexpression of SIRT1) suggests that the psychedelic effect may be inseparable from the longevity-promoting effect, at least through this pathway”

Simultaneously, this psilocybin longevity study at least ties the most effective intervention in mice (rapamycin) and does so at a dose that is actually totally plausible in humans

“looking at how they did the pk modeling was well done”

“it looks like they replicated it in vitro with human lung fibroblasts. So the effect exists in live mice and in human cells in the lab. Seems like it’s hard to do much better, aside from either modeling the mechanism or doing a proper RCT in humans”
“Scaling via allometric scaling, the 15mg/kg dosage of psilocybin they gave the mice is about 85mg for a 70kg human, which is a very very heroic dose. Maybe 8.5 grams as a reasonable guess. With a high variance.”
“that’s still much closer to a plausible human dosage than rapamycin doses are”

mice the equivalent of a human therapeutic dose of 25mg of psilocybin, which is perhaps 2.5-5 grams of mushrooms depending on strain exactly

(also they gave it once per month…)

for sake of risk, small doses >> bigger doses. I did have a really strong healing heart-holding session while on a small dose of shrooms that made me feel super-calm for the rest of the day - I do wonder if it makes people feel bodywork more strongly.

“Blocking 5-HT2A eliminates the hallucinogenic effects, but not the antidepressant response, decoupling the trip from the therapeutic mechanism.”
As fun as the psychedelic experience can be, if the above statement is true this is quite handy.

I have also felt like it clears my brain after particularly stressful periods. I have no idea about the mechanism but a low dose - .2-.4 g in the evening - just feels like it resets my brain activity.

Unfortunately, I can’t get psilocybin mushrooms from vendors in India.
How can I get some. Do I have to see my local drug dealer or make a trip to Oregon?

The solution is to grow your own from spores which can be legally shipped. I wouldn’t trust sites that claim to ship magic mushrooms. Probably a scam b/c of the legal situation in the USA, at least for now. As a starting point, checkout tripsitter dot com. Lots of info.

Do you think their products are the real thing?
Sorry, that was a stupid question. I am having an unexpected trip today with modafinil.
Took a little too much, and it feels like an alcohol buzz.
What I really want to know is whether anyone has had a positive experience ordering from any of the suggested sources and enjoyed a positive “trip”.

I live in Michigan and have been able to order spore syringes. Like jjrap1 mentioned, spore syringes are legal in most states. I just had to fumble through the procedure for getting the mycelium started and then the fruiting (mushrooms). There is a learning curve for success with this procedure. It is peace of mind knowing that you’re consuming pure mushrooms grown in your own home. That was before Ann Arbor Michigan decriminalized mushrooms. I have friends and family living in the area and would simply have the product delivered to their door One Eighth Dried Magic Mushrooms

Ann Arbor delivery I would completely trust. As far as other sites in Colorado, Oregon, etc. using a package delivery service, it seems synonymous with the weed industry. Its becoming more widely accepted and manufacturers are becoming more legitimate to meet the upcoming legalization. With that, there is plenty of good product and some are willing to risk sending it out of state for $

At least with mushrooms, you can physically see that you have received dried mushrooms. You could then do a qualitative observation as to whether they are the psilocybin variety or not. Many images out there.

Well, caveat emptor, but check out: That Website Selling Magic Mushroom Spores May Be a Scam. The One Selling Shrooms Almost Certainly Is. How To Avoid Falling for the Trap

Not all states allow you to order spores. CA is a big one. Several cities have decriminalized them like Oakland and Santa Cruz. You can’t buy them from a store but there are clubs and even a “Church of entheogenic plants” called Zide Door you can join to get them.

The result and effect can be intense at medium dose or higher.

I became more appreciate of arts and architecture after my trip lol. But it was frightening to feel the tug on reality and memory, returning to normal felt cleansing and like my brain was clear and happy about it for a few weeks. Your experience may vary significantly. I would make sure to have benzodiazepines at hand at the very least or whatever people do and similar protocols.

Case in point:

May alter your memory, sense of self, reality, etc.

TWO IMPORTANT PTS FOR HARM AVOIDANCE

https://x.com/JulesEvans11/status/1943634849081778604

and

Below is a harm-reduction playbook that seasoned psychonauts, security professionals, and psychedelic-therapy guides all use when the cost of leaking information is high. Nothing can drive the probability to zero—classic serotonergic compounds do boost openness, empathy, and suggestibility in controlled studies—but each layer cuts the odds of an indiscreet disclosure.

1 Understand why the risk is real

Mechanism What the lab data show How it spills secrets

MDMA & self-disclosure Volunteers on 1.5 mg/kg MDMA used more social/sexual words and shared deeper autobiographical material during a scripted conversation “I love you guys” → unprompted confessions, business gossip, personal logs
LSD & suggestibility 100–200 µg LSD doubled scores on a hypnotic-suggestibility scale in healthy subjects A leading question (“So what REALLY happened at work?”) elicits surprisingly candid answers
Psilocybin & trait openness A single high dose raised the Openness personality factor for months in 60 % of participants Post-trip you may want to “share the revelation” with friends, social media, or reporters

2 Pre-trip operational security (OPSEC)

Move What it blocks

Device quarantine: power-down phone & laptop; stash in a locked room or Faraday pouch Accidental tweeting, encrypted-chat leaks, voice-assistant activation
Hard boundaries on company: trip only with one trusted sitter who already knows the sensitive material—or knows nothing Social engineering by curious acquaintances
No strangers, no livestreams, no audio recorders The permanent digital transcript problem
Written pre-commitment: make a short list of do-not-discuss topics, sign it, give a copy to the sitter Creates a cognitive “tripwire” that even in altered states can cue redirection
Choose molecules & doses wisely: if secrecy is paramount, favor moderate psilocybin or 1P-LSD over MDMA or high-dose LSD; avoid combos with alcohol or benzos Lower empathogenic drive & verbal fluency, preserve more executive control
Set a “quiet container”: eyeshades + instrumental playlist + journaling option Keeps talking to a minimum

3 Sitter protocol (if you’re the sitter, brief yourself)

  1. Agree on a “redirect phrase” (“Let’s breathe on that”) to gently pivot if the user drifts toward forbidden topics.

  2. Use open-ended but non-probing language. Ask “How is your body?” not “What happened at the lab?”

  3. Have neutral distractors (hand drum, essential-oil inhaler, blanket) to shift attention without confrontation.

  4. No recording, no note-taking unless the user asked for it in writing before the session.

4 Digital hygiene for the next 48 h

Airplane mode until baseline cognition returns; many leaks happen in the euphoric afterglow.

Delay-send email and social posts (e.g., Boomerang, Outlook delay) by 24 h—a second-look buffer.

Review chat logs before you hit “enter.”

If you wrote a trip journal, store it encrypted or offline.

5 Cognitive & behavioral safeguards

Technique How to implement When to use

Verbal austerity (“Noble Silence”) Commit to speaking only essential words for the first 4 h Solo or retreat-style sessions
Mantra anchoring Pick a short phrase (“Stay inside”), repeat when you feel chatty Works during peaks
Somatic grounding Touch a cold stone, feel breath in belly When emotions surge toward disclosure
Safe-topic cards Pre-printed themes (music, colors, nature); sitter hands one over if conversation stalls Group retreats

6 If you do slip

  1. Stop talking. Literally bite tongue, breathe.

  2. Ask the listener for confidentiality—most friends will honor an immediate, earnest request.

  3. Post-trip damage control:

Politely request deletion of any recordings or messages.

Change passwords if credentials leaked.

Consult legal counsel if the information was regulated (e.g., trade secrets, immigration-sensitive).

Bottom line

Psychedelics lower the natural filters that keep private thoughts private; multiple controlled studies confirm heightened empathy, openness, and suggestibility. Treat every session like a temporary drop in “mental firewall strength.” A layered approach—device lockdown, trusted company, explicit boundaries, and post-session cool-down—shrinks the attack surface so the probability of spilling secrets stays acceptably low while you explore altered states.

@AlexKChen was opining about the human dose being maybe 8.5g, which is indeed a ‘heroic dose’! But @Dreamdoc mentioned 200-400mg. This is in the microdose ( ‘sub-perceptual’ ) realm. So far less than anything trippy, but on the other hand perhaps often taken far more frequently. For example, James Fadiman in the past has suggested 1 day on and 2 days off. Paul Stamets has suggested 5 days on, weekends off (presentations on YouTube). Wonder if this more frequent microdosing would have any/the same advantage (assuming the result generalize to humans)??

Try the Shroomzstore in Oakland. They ship via USPS.

Are there reputable ways of getting psilocybin? I feel like I heard that if you use it you should have a “guide” who preps you, helps you get in a good mind-space, and then watches over you while you’re tripping. I haven’t used an illicit drug in my life, but now that I’m in my 50’s I’ve heard enough to be curious about a one-off experience.
