“Cognitive decline”
I honestly could care less about that, I do some precautions.
Most people do not care about that, as evident by the fact of the copious amount of people who smoke marijuana, drink alcohol, never exercise, or have other habits which probably decrease cognitive function over time. Most important thing is to have a good intelligence baseline… I think most of us will be in the normal intelligence range even with expected cognitive decline from statins (which is low, because of uncertainty).
Evidence for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia is embarrassingly weak. They will probably help prevent vascular dementia, and other problems with the brain from reduced blood flow due to atherosclerosis. The net effect, I think statins help with cognitive function (+ by preventing atherosclerosis).
Some people do hesitate to take statins because they’ve heard about others who have had symptoms related to statin use, such as brain fog, muscle pain, and liver problems, she says.
“But such side effects are rare, and the benefits of statins clearly outweigh the risks in people who are appropriate candidates,” she says.

Bicep, just a brief comment here. I’ve been taking pantethine, a vitamin B5 derivative, for years at a dose of two 450 mg capsules daily (morning and evening). I believe it lowers my LDL Cholesterol about 15 points from a bit over 130 to a level of 115. Check out Citrus Bergamot, brings down cholesterol with 15-20% within short term use. It did for me, got this recommended from a few comments on Consumerlab.com. Decided to try it and law and behold it came down 20% for me as well. Not the cheapest supplement, but worth a try.

What dosage are you using?

Still, no one has said what their apoB or LDL is who have taken citrus bergamot or other supplements.
Do you mind saying what yours is?
Yes, but high risk patients and diabetics. Steve Nissan from Cleveland Clinic, and one of the authors, stressed in an interview that if you’re high risk, especially if diabetic, then you should lower your lipids with meds.
No arguments there.

At 1000 mg of CB my LDL dropped 20% along with my triglycerides. HDL up 25%.
I haven’t yet repeated my critical ApoB and A-1. Have also introduced Amla and taurine to the mix. Will check soon.
Regardless, several studies are consistent in finding lipid lowering with CB. Very impressive. Doses up to 1500 mg’s. No side effects noted in any of them except for some mild heartburn.

And what has your LDL dropped to, if you mind, what is the absolute number?

Thank you. Started it some time ago, along with Psyllium Husk. Also added Pantethine 600 mg. Had to stop rosuvastatin bc of muscle pain.
LDL was 80 ish for most of my life . Same with triglycerides.
On rapamycin went up to 160. Down to 128 on CB.

Most of us want an LDL that is lower than 128, so it isn’t as effective as a PCSK9 inhibitor or high dose statins (or combo with ezetimibe). If someone can show an LDL or apoB of 60 combining different supplements, that would be interesting for many of us.

I am using Jarrows Formula 500mg twice a day, with dinner and before I go to bed.

I am not sure I understand the question, do you want to know my lipid numbers before and after Bergamot?
You can see my history of ApoB scores below. You see those scores in the 90’s? That’s when I was on citrus bergamot. Didn’t do anything for me.
Zetia got me down to the 60’s, then adding Bempedoic Acid my ApoB went down to 46

The jury is still out for me. I have used citrus bergamot on and off over the years and for other reasons than lowering LDL. I am currently using it to see if I can get my LDL lower. Unfortunately, it takes time to make valid tests as there are some other variables involved with me. If there was a significant lowering of LDL while using it I failed to notice. Maybe it is more dose dependent for some people.

Chimps don’t get heart attacks despite high blood pressure and high lipids. Could be due to one gene lost in humans.

It appears once again that combating inflammation, especially long-term low-grade inflammation is probably more important than pursuing anti-oxidants.

All of the evidence points in that direction for sure, though there’s a fair amount of overlap, especially in foods.
