The article does a poor job summarizing the research involved, by mentioning a key point only in passing : The dye used attaches preferentially to cancer cells and has been used for some time to make cancer cells visible under a microscope. It does not say how precise this dye preference for cancer cells is : If 99% of cancer cells but 10% or normal cells are stained, this process would still be deadly to a higher organisms that is not likely to survive having 10% of the body’s cells killed off. On the other hand, they did test it in mice with melanoma and 50% of the mice were cured, so it can’t be that bad.
