Sometimes I do think that student loan debt is a scheme to keep people in the workforce until they finish paying off their debt at age 65.

Perhaps it’s capitalism, consumerism, and our social structure that keep us constantly working. However, I believe that living a life without purpose can take a greater toll. I retired at 35, but after a while, I felt lost in a sea of meaningless engagements. It became exhausting and depressing. Eventually, I pursued a PhD, followed by a residency and now a fellowship. While I may not have much spare time, I’m much happier now than when I was retired. Looking back, if I were still doing what I did before retirement, I think I would have lost my mind. It’s crucial to engage in activities that fulfill us and give us a sense of purpose and direction.

It sounds like you have found the holy grail of work-life balance. The important thing is to do what you enjoy. I love my job too, except for the fact that I have to wake up at 5:30 am every weekday, but I finish at 4 pm. Too many people are working because they need the money and doing something that they probably don’t enjoy. I’ve been there too…

Absolutely, it’s challenging to find fulfillment when work is solely about survival and paying bills. I share a socialist perspective and strongly support the idea of universal basic income. Providing everyone with a financial safety net would empower individuals to pursue their passions and interests, leading to a more fulfilling and productive society overall.
